Ingrid
Involvement with dogs started in 1985 on acquiring her first Kennel Union
of SA (KUSA) registered Bouvier des Flandres. This dog introduced her to
the breed show ring.
Interest in dogs has expanded and today breeds and shows Irish Wolfhounds,
Miniature long, smooth and Wirehaired Dachshunds and German Wirehaired Pointers.
A new addition to her kennel is the affenpinscher – Nixie recently imported
from Australia, soon to be joined by a further import from the USA.
Also owns a standard Poodle that in addition to being a breed champion currently
competes in Class C obedience and has competed in CD in working trials.
All her dogs are registered under the Zabush kennel name.
A number of her dogs have successfully completed the KUSA CGC (Canine Good
Citizen) – these include both the Wolfhounds and the Dachshunds.
The Poodle and Dachshunds have been part of the WODAC obedience to music
display and they together with her Bouvier have been in the WODAC carting
display.
Two dogs have been used in television commercials.
Has attended many dog-related workshops, the most prominent being those
conducted by Professor Raymond Coppinger and Dr Malcolm Willis.
Has completed the Compass Education and Training (UK) course on Canine Aggression
and more importantly has also been awarded the Advanced Diploma in Canine
Behaviour Management, with distinction – making her only the second person
in SA with this qualification.
Member of the KUSA, judges carting at championship level and hounds and
herding groups at open show level. She is registered with the SA Veterinary
Council.
Presently chairman of the Miniature Dachshund Club of the Rand and has previously
served on the committees of the Teckel Club and the Bouvier des Flandres
Club.
Together with other family members she owns and runs a small boarding kennel
and cattery in the south of Johannesburg.
