Ingrid
Involvement with dogs started in 1985 on acquiring her first Kennel Union of SA (KUSA) registered Bouvier des Flandres. This dog introduced her to the breed show ring.
Interest in dogs has expanded and today breeds and shows Irish Wolfhounds, Miniature long, smooth and Wirehaired Dachshunds and German Wirehaired Pointers.
A new addition to her kennel is the affenpinscher – Nixie recently imported from Australia, soon to be joined by a further import from the USA.
Also owns a standard Poodle that in addition to being a breed champion currently competes in Class C obedience and has competed in CD in working trials. All her dogs are registered under the Zabush kennel name.
A number of her dogs have successfully completed the KUSA CGC (Canine Good Citizen) – these include both the Wolfhounds and the Dachshunds.
The Poodle and Dachshunds have been part of the WODAC obedience to music display and they together with her Bouvier have been in the WODAC carting display.
Two dogs have been used in television commercials.
Has attended many dog-related workshops, the most prominent being those conducted by Professor Raymond Coppinger and Dr Malcolm Willis.
Has completed the Compass Education and Training (UK) course on Canine Aggression and more importantly has also been awarded the Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management, with distinction – making her only the second person in SA with this qualification.
Member of the KUSA, judges carting at championship level and hounds and herding groups at open show level. She is registered with the SA Veterinary Council.
Presently chairman of the Miniature Dachshund Club of the Rand and has previously served on the committees of the Teckel Club and the Bouvier des Flandres Club.
Together with other family members she owns and runs a small boarding kennel and cattery in the south of Johannesburg.
